YOUniversity is a ground breaking musical about the journey and struggles of getting to college from the perspective and stories of 35+ teens from the DC Metro area. The Summer Street Theater teen cast from City at Peace have written a powerful tale based on their real lives.

This year's City at Peace Street Theater production, YOUniversity, is designed to bring the conflicts and creative solutions of young people to a wider metropolitan and student audience, using performing arts as a vehicle for personal and social change and to talk deeper about the real issues teens have involving the topic of college. The project takes our original cast written musical out of the theater and into the streets and DCPS schools. Cast members train with technical professionals to become familiar with the audio, stage management and logistical aspects of producing a show.

The YOUniversity public performance is FREE and will be held on Wednesday, August 3^rd at 6pm at the Minor Elementary School Parking Lot

Together with partners who are also dedicated to youth development and leadership, City at Peace DC tours its original musical, reaching audiences with entertaining tales of cross cultural relationships, conflict resolution and challenges met and overcome. The free street show is produced and performed by young people, who demonstrate excellence in leadership, performance, management skills and technical proficiency while showcasing youth empowerment at its finest.

Audition for Street Theatre with City at Peace DC!

 City at Peace DC announces auditions for their summer Street Theatre program! Spend your summer singing, dancing, acting, working backstage as Stage Managers, Wardrobe, Sets and Properties designers/builders, Sound Engineers and Theatre Technicians and make a difference in your life and the lives of other teens in the DMV!

The summer Street Theatre program is a six week summer program that allows participants to examine some of the issues facing young people in the DMV and gives them tools for creating steps toward positive change. Youth ages 14-21 are eligible to audition. Youth will also receive training from adult professionals in the areas of acting, singing, dancing, stage management, sound design, wardrobe and costumes, set and properties design, marketing and promotions and leadership development.

The program will culminate in an original musical written and performed by the participants for audiences, outside and in recreation centers across the city. This program runs Monday thru Friday from 10am until 4pm. It begins Monday, June 27, 2011 and ends Friday, August 5, 2011. It is open to young people from DC, Maryland and Virginia. There is no cost to participate.

The audition process is simple. There is nothing to prepare. There are survey forms to fill out, theatre games, a simple dance combination and some singing. City at Peace supplies all of the work. They don’t accept applicants based on talent alone as they are looking for young people who are interested in working together to find solutions to the problems facing our society and their lives. All young people need to do is be willing to go through the process and be able to commit.

Saturday, June 11^th at 5pm and Friday, June 17^th at 4:30pm
