Applications for the 2012-13 LearnServe Fellows program are available: Applications due April 30!

LearnServe International invites rising sophomores and juniors from Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia to apply for
the 2012–13 LearnServe Fellows Program.

As LearnServe Fellows, students
will have the opportunity to:

Connect with like-minded students from schools across the DC area;

Engage with organizations who are tackling poverty, hunger, discrimination, climate change, and other pressing social problems, in DC and around the world;

Develop leadership skills so that they are prepared to respond to these global challenges; and

Design and launch a “social venture” – an organization or project that will benefit their school or community.

Please note that the deadline to complete the online application for this year’s LearnServe Fellows program is Monday, April 30, 2012.

There is a participation fee of $100 that would be paid once a student is accepted into the program. Financial assistance is available.

Applications for the 2012 LearnServe Abroad program are now available!

LearnServe International is now accepting applications for their 2012 LearnServe Abroad program. This summer, LearnServe will have service-learning trips to: Jamaica, Paraguay and Zambia.

As a participant in a LearnServe program, you will see first-hand the difference that you can make in the lives of others. From working on issues like sustainable development to complicated world problems such as AIDS, you will be able to break these issues down into simple solutions that will change lives. These experiences, the friends you will make and the skills you will gain will change the way you see the world and address its problems.

Each LearnServe Trip has an important service component and these experiences will give participants insight into regions of the world that are struggling with pressing problems like HIV/AIDS, poverty and education. Preparation includes cultural exposure and prepares participants for their work with community-based organizations.

 The cost for each program is: $2,950 for Jamaica, $3,600 for Paraguay and $4,750 for Zambia. While LearnServe offers financial aid on an as needed and a first-come, first served basis, all participants are encouraged to cover at least 50% of the cost of their trip. The online applications are due on Saturday, December 10, 2011 and students who apply by close of business on November 25 will receive a $65 early bird discount. In addition to the early-bird discount, LearnServe will also provide applicants with advice on fundraising activities.

Apply for the 2011-12 LearnServe Fellows Program!

LearnServe International invites rising sophomores and juniors to apply for the 2011–12 LearnServe Fellows Program. LearnServe Fellows will have the opportunity to: 

• Connect with like-minded students from schools across DC.
• Engage with organizations who are tackling poverty, hunger, discrimination, climate change and other pressing social problems in DC and around the world.
• Develop leadership skills that will prepare students to respond to these global challenges.
• Design and launch their own “social venture” – an organization or project that will benefit your school or community.

 From September 2011 to May 2012, Fellows will:

• Meet on Thursday afternoons from 4:30-6:30pm, three times a month. (All meetings are Metro accessible);
• Participate in a two-day weekend retreat (October) and four (4) weekend service days and skills workshops throughout the year. 
• Learn directly from local leaders who are working to solve global problems.
• Pitch their "ventures" to a review panel of professionals for seed grants to get their projects started.

Please note: students who participate in the Fellows program are not automatically enrolled in a LearnServe trip. However, Fellows will have "first dibs" to sign up for one of the trips.
