Buick Achievers Scholarship - Applications due March 31, 2011!


The Buick Achievers Scholarship
This scholarship, funded by the GM Foundation, is designed to help students who are leaders in both the classroom and in their communities, but who may not have the financial means to attend college. The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program will award:

Up to $25,000 per year for 100 students, and
$2,000 per year for 1,000 students

You are strongly encouraged to apply for the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program if you:
  • Will be enrolling full-time as a first-time freshman at a 4-year college or university.
  •  Plan to major in one of the following: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing or Design (http://www.buickachievers.com/questions_and_answers/#majors). 
  • Have an interest in a career in the automotive or related industries.

Award Amounts

Recipients will be awarded one scholarship at either of the two award levels:
1,000 Buick Achievers Scholarships of $2,000, available for four years and one additional year for those entering a five-year engineering program.
100 Buick Achievers National Scholarships of up to $25,000 per year, available for four years, and one additional year for those entering a five-year engineering program.

Application Procedure

Interested students can begin the electronic application process by clicking on the Register as an Applicant link in the Scholarship Links menu in the left margin. When in the application process, you may leave the site prior to submission by clicking on the Logout link located at the top of the left margin. To return to the application, you must enter your email and password as provided when registering for the application process.

You should gather the following information that will be necessary for the application:
  • A list of your community and school activities, and work experience.
  •  Your high school transcript of grades (Online transcripts must display student name, school name, grade and credit hours earned for each course, and term in which each course was taken).
  •  Your parents/guardians' financial information from their most recently filed tax return.
 The application must be submitted electronically by 11:59PM on March 31, 2011. 

Award Criteria 
Scholarship recipients are selected based on the following factors:
  • Academic achievement;
  •  Financial need;
  • Participation and leadership in community and school activities, work experience, educational and career goals, and unusual circumstances; and
  •  Special consideration will be given to the following applicants: first-generation college, female, minority, military veteran or a dependent of military personnel.
